Argentina and Lionel Messi marked their 2022 World Cup win with a celebratory 2-0 victory over Panama last week.
Playing at a raucous El Monumental, the South American giants were welcomed home as heroes.
The biggest of those, Lionel Messi, starred against Panama as he played a hand in the first goal before scoring the second with a pinpoint free-kick.
Argentina will play another friendly on home soil on Tuesday night against Curacao with all eyes on Messi as he closes in on another milestone.

Is Lionel Messi playing today for Argentina vs Curacao?
Messi is expected to be heavily involved once again against Curacao having played the full 90 minutes against Panama.
The 35-year-old has enjoyed a fine season, only missing a handful of games for club and country.
As Argentina fans are given another chance to celebrate the team’s World Cup triumph, it’s hard to see Messi being left out of Lionel Scaloni’s starting side — especially as he chases his 100th Argentina goal.
Should Argentina dominate the game, Messi will likely get substituted and would no doubt leave the pitch to a well-deserved standing ovation for all he’s done for the national team.

Will Messi play 2026 World Cup?
Before and during the 2022 World Cup, Messi had indicated the tournament would be his last.
But after lifting the trophy, he stressed that it did not mark the end of his international career with Argentina.
“No, I’m not going to be retiring from the Argentina national team,” he told TyC Sports. “I want to continue playing as a champion.”
Scaloni also looked to lure Messi back for the 2026 World Cup immediately after their final win over France by saying: “Messi should have a place in the next World Cup. If he wants to continue playing, the ’10’ will always be his.”
Speaking in March, Scaloni continued to keep the door open for Messi potentially playing at the 2026 World Cup.
“Being in the next World Cup will be Leo’s decision; if his body can take it, for me, he will be there,” Scaloni said.

That means the attacker is in with a strong chance of reaching the 100-goal milestone for his country in the friendly match against Curacao.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is already Argentina’s all-time top scorer and most-capped player.
