The United States men take the field for their first competitive match of the 2026 World Cup cycle as they travel to Grenada to play a CONCACAF Nations League group stage game.
The USMNT successfully progressed from their group at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but fell to the Netherlands in the Round of 16, unable to win a knockout stage game for yet another tournament.
Head coach Gregg Berhalter saw his contract expire at that point, and his future has yet to be decided. Instead, acting head coach Anthony Hudson remains in charge as U.S. Soccer moves towards a new hire, either Berhalter or someone else.
They now face Grenada, ranked 173rd in the world by the latest official FIFA rankings. They were unbeaten through play in League B in the inaugural Nations League tournament in 2019, which saw them bumped up to League A for this contest. They have just one competitive victory since, a 1-0 win over the U.S. Virgin Islands in the preliminary rounds of World Cup qualifying back in 2021.

Grenada vs USA projected lineups & team news
By far the biggest threat up front on this Grenada roster is Jamal Charles who sports 17 international goals in 34 caps, playing his club ball domestically for Paradise FC.
A pair of players on the roster, midfielder AJ Paterson and defender Benjamin Ettienne, play in the United States for USL side Charleston Battery.
Meanwhile, 19-year-old central defender Kayden Harrack is a Queens Park Rangers youth product in England and already has five international caps. His second-tier club is not to be confused with that of the same name in the Grenada domestic league, who defender Trevon Williams plays for.
Grenada projected starting lineup (5-3-2): Richardson (GK) — Mark, Harrack, Pierre, Ettienne, James — Theodore, Frank, Paterson — Isaac, J. Charles.
The United States have a relatively strong squad, although interim head coach Anthony Hudson did hint that some first-choice players were left off the roster for these March games to rest, including Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jesus Ferreira.
Tim Weah was originally selected to the squad, but suffered a concussion on club duty just before the break and was withdrawn from the squad. Another individual not included is captain Tyler Adams who picked up a slight muscle injury while playing for his club Leeds before the break.
With this match on the road against a weak opponent, Hudson could deploy a lineup featuring a number of backups, possibly giving Zack Steffen a chance in goal. It may also be time to give Mark McKenzie a look at center-back and Joe Scally at full-back, to give often-used Fulham duo Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson a rest before the home match against El Salvador in four days.
With Ferreira not selected to the roster, it’s a chance for an in-form Daryl Dike or Ricardo Pepi up front.
USA projected starting lineup (4-3-3): Steffen (GK) — Dest, Robinson, McKenzie, Scally — Musah, de la Torre, Mihailovic — Aaronson, Dike, Zendejas.
Grenada vs USA betting odds & lines
Ranked 173rd in the world, Grenada are enormous underdogs to the 2026 World Cup hosts despite being at home. Their only wins in any competition since 2019 are against the U.S. Virgin Islands and St. Vincent & the Grenadines.
The United States are so favored in this game, that the handicap for the hosts is all the way up to 3.5 goals, with the over also inflated as a result.
